Dirk Kotzé is a South African businessman and entrepreneur, currently serving as the Executive Mayor of the Mossel Bay Local Municipality. Under his leadership Mossel Bay Municipality has been named the Most Financially Sustainable Municipality in South Africa, alongside Midvaal Municipality in Gauteng, by Ratings Afrika. During his term the Pinnacle Point Complex Site has also been awarded World Heritage Status.
Leadership
A formidable business leader, Kotzé established a successful small enterprise in 1996.
Kotzé has served as Chairperson of the Municipal Liquor Committee, Urban Renewal Committee, Municipal Oversight Committee and Legal and Corporate Services Committee.
Kotzé also served as Finance Chairperson of Point High School’s Governing Body, Secretary of the Hartenbos Homeowners Association and served on the Management of both the Aalwyndal Homeowners Association and that of the Benevolent Park Old Age Home. He is also a former Executive Member of the Mossel Bay Aeroclub.
He previously served as the Deputy Mayor of the Mossel Bay Municipality from 2016 to 2021 and served as Member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services (2016-2021), Ward Councillor for Ward 8 in Mossel Bay and Chairperson of the Oversight Committee from 2015- 2016.
Education
He holds an Honours degree in Public Administration from MANCOSA.
A graduate of the University of the Western Cape School of Government’s Executive Leadership Program, and Stellenbosch School of Governance Middle Management Leadership Program, Kotzé also completed courses in Municipal, Media & Stakeholder Engagement from the University of Witwatersrand and Local Government Legislation through
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. He also completed the Municipal Minimum Competency for municipal senior managers.
Early Life
Kotzé was born in Worcester. He has two sisters and a brother. He received his primary school education in De Aar and his high school education in Colesberg.
He served as Head Boy at both primary and high school, demonstrating an early desire to serve.
After high school, he started and operated a business.
Personal Life
Kotzé is married to Riëtte. They have one son, Driaan and he has been living in the Mossel Bay area for more than two decades. He first lived in Suiderkruis in Great Brak for five years, before he moved to Mossel Bay.
Kotzé enjoys camping, cycling and is a big fan of the writing of Dr. Myles Munroe.
